Samsung unveils a specked-out, slim gaming laptop that you probably can't get
Samsung host an Unpacked 2021 event Wednesday to show off its latest Galaxy Book Pro. As a surprise, the company also revealed the return of its gaming laptop line, though Samsung might not release it in the US.
The Galaxy Book Odyssey is Samsung's gaming-focused 15.6-inch laptop powered by an 11th-gen Intel Core H Series processor and an Nvidia RTX 3050Ti GPU. It also will have up to 32GB of RAM, up to 2TB of SSD storage and an enhanced cooling system, and it will come in Mystic Black.

And when it comes to money, we’re not much different.
“This ‘resolution fatigue’ is a real thing, but there are ways to keep making progress even when you start to feel worn out,” Emily Shallal, senior director of customer strategy and innovation at Ally Bank, tells
To help make it easier for you to see your financial resolutions through, Shallal shares actionable money moves you can make now and for the rest of the year.
Check out her six tips below.
1. Automate your finances
From your bills, to your savings and investments, automate as much of it as you can.
When you set up autopay for things like your credit card bill, your car payments and rent, you can count on never having to pay a late fee. Your payment history is the most important factor that determines your credit score, which is why paying on time should be a high priority.
You can also automate your savings so that you have recurring transfers from your checking account to your savings account every month.
For example, the Ally Online Savings Account has a“Surprise Savings” feature that, once activated, monitors your linked checking accounts (at any bank) and your spending to find areas where you could save. Any money that’s “safe to save” will be automatically transferred over to your savings. The transfer limit is in amounts under $100 and the bank does no more than three transfers per week.
2. Give your budget a ‘glow up’
If it’s been a while since you last edited your budget (or even created one at all), Shallal suggests making a budget that fits your current lifestyle and prioritizes you.
“Show your budget some love by giving it a refreshing makeover, and remember that budgeting shouldn’t be all about restriction,” she says.
While budgeting usually entails curbing your spending, include in your numbers little ways you can continue to treat yourself even as you cut back.
For example, YouTuber Aja Dang would account for $100 facials in her monthly budgets because she prioritized her self-care and found them of value. 3. Consolidate your savings
Consolidating is an efficient way to both declutter and organize your money, Shallal says.
Closing old, unused accounts help you avoid monthly maintenance fees or fees for not hitting the minimum balance requirements. It may also help you track your money better, especially when you opt for a savings account with organization tools.
Many savings accounts, including Ally, allow users to divvy up their money into different buckets or categories for each of their savings goals. This means you can keep all your cash savings in one place while still saving for multiple goals. Create a designated fund for a “Future Vacation” and another for “Emergency Savings.”
4. Try a ‘savings spree’ for one month
The “savings spree” that Shallal recommends trying for a month requires that you save a dollar amount that matches the calendar date.
You would start by saving $1 on the first of the month, $2 on the second and so on. In an average month, she notes that you can end up with nearly $500 saved in total by the end of the month.
5. Match your savings to your spending for one week
Another savings technique that Shallal suggests involves you saving as much as you spend for one week (or more).
Each time you spend a dollar, you put a dollar into your savings. The idea is to match everything you spend, but you can also tailor it to stick to a specified limit, “like putting a max of $5 into savings per purchase,” she says.
6. Increase your annual retirement contribution by 1%
Investing a certain percentage of your income in a retirement plan every year helps you to create a secure financial future. Experts at Fidelity Investments recommend a 15% yearly contribution target, including any employee/employer contributions.
While 15% might be higher or lower than what you can currently afford, it doesn’t hurt anyone to bump up their retirement contributions by 1%.
“Investing even a few extra dollars a month has the potential to amount to serious returns down the road,” Shallal says.

Vacheron Constantin Embraces Gold and High Complications in Three New Overseas Models
Alongside its other notable releases at the recently concluded Watches & Wonders exhibition, Vacheron Constantin added to its popular Overseas sport-luxury range two white-gold perpetual calendars and a rose-gold tourbillon. The updates follow-up 2020’s rose-gold Overseas Self-Winding, and rose-gold perpetual calendars, bringing even more higher-tier complications to the expanding Overseas collection.
Overseas Perpetual Calendar Ultra-Thin Skeleton
Turning to the most visually complex of the group first, the Overseas Perpetual Calendar Ultra-Thin Skeleton in white gold uses the familiar Overseas case shape, sized moderately in diameter at 41.5 mm and superbly thin for a perpetual calendar at 8.1 mm. Also in keeping with the contemporary Overseas design, it has an integrated bracelet, a hexagonal bezel evoking the Maltese cross (Vacheron’s longtime symbol), and a fluted, signed crown. The case is exquisitely finished, with alternating polished and brushed surfaces throughout, but also quite hardy for its haute horologerie status, featuring a 50-meter water resistance and a soft iron inner casing for anti-magnetism protection.
Under a sapphire crystal is the skeletonized perpetual-calendar dial, its complex mechanisms marked with blue, metal, and gold tones throughout. Along its outer edge a curved minute ring provides the outline for the intricate face, with applied, lume-filled, white-gold hour markers one step closer to the center of the dial and providing symmetry with the four subdials. These comprise displays for an analog date at 3 o’clock; a moon-phase at 6 o’clock; an analog day indicator at 9 o’clock; and an unusual integrated four-year month counter at 12 o’clock that seamlessly accounts for leap years without the additional leap-year indicator seen on most other perpetual calendars.
Vacheron Constantin Caliber 1120 QPSQ/1, which powers the watch, is a skeletonized version of the manufacture’s Caliber 1120 QP/1. The automatic mechanism features a 40-hour power reserve and beats at 19,800 vph. Its 276 hand-finished components include a 22k-gold, skeletonized oscillating weight, containing the brand’s signature Maltese cross and finished with an NAC treatment.
Overseas Perpetual Calendar Ultra-Thin
While the skeletonized version of the watch is likely to garner the most attention, the solid-dial version still has plenty to offer. In terms of overall design, the watch is virtually the same as its skeletonized counterpart, sporting the same 41.5-mm case, with options for three integrated bracelets including a solid white gold, a blue alligator strap, and a sporty blue rubber, the former two integrating a case-matching 18k white-gold buckle.
The dial, of course, is where the difference between the models is most apparent. Non-skeletonized, it opts for a solid blue sunburst color produced from blue lacquering. Much of the details here are once again quite similar to the skeleton version, though conspicuously lacking any yellow gold-colored details, instead going for a much more conservative overall look, with two lume-filled sword hands passing over it all.
Inside this version of the perpetual calendar is the aforementioned Caliber 1120 QP/1, sans skeletonization and also featuring a 40-hour power reserve and 19,800-vph frequency. Both iterations of the movement feature the prestigious Hallmark of Geneva, testifying to their haute horologerie finishing and signifying their construction within the Swiss canton of Geneva. The major aesthetic difference is this caliber’s use of a non-skeletonized, 22k yellow-gold rotor without the NAC treatment.
Overseas Tourbillon
The final model introduced in 2021’s Overseas expansion is the Overseas Tourbillon in rose gold, a precious-metal update to the steel variation first unveiled in 2019. The overall look of the watch is similar to the previously covered Perpetual Calendar models, though with slightly larger case dimensions, at 42.5 mm in diameter and 10.39 mm high, and a somewhat bulkier crown on its right side.
The blue sunburst lacquered dial quickly catches the eye, with lume-filled rose-gold hour markers that contrasts the cool dial tones and resonate with the warm hue of the rose-gold case. Most of the dial configuration is relatively simple, with a curved outer minute ring, inner hour markers, and two central sword hands. It’s not until we get to the centerpiece, openworked tourbillon of the watch at 6 o’clock that the watch’s technical mastery is truly showcased; it features a small seconds pointer on its Maltese cross-shaped carriage.
On the opposite side of the Overseas Tourbillon we find its engine, Vacheron’s automatic Caliber 2160, displayed behind a sapphire caseback and showing off its meticulous finishing. Also in plain view are its 22k gold peripheral oscillating weight, and a back view of the watch’s namesake tourbillon. The in-house produced Caliber 2160 carries an 80-hour power reserve, beats at a frequency of 18,000 vph, and is composed of 188 total components.
Price and Availability
All of the new Vacheron Constantin models are available now via the brand’s global network of boutiques. The Overseas Perpetual Calendar Ultra-Thin Skeleton is marked at $130,000, the non-skeleton version is priced significantly lower at $97,000, and the Overseas Tourbillon retails at 165,000 euros, or just below $200,000.

Exploring new Materials: Rado Launches the Captain Cook Ceramic
Rado‘s Captain Cook is presented for the first time in a case size of 43 mm, and in four versions with two types of matte ceramic cases. The first one (Ref. R32127152) comes with a black ceramic case (Zirconium dioxide, ZrO2) and bracelet; the crown and bezel are made of hardened stainless steel, the latter one with a glossy black ceramic insert. The second Captain Cook Ceramic model (Ref. R32127156) comes with the same case and dial but is offered with a rubber strap and folding clasp:
The third version (Ref. R32127162) is offered similarly in a black ceramic case and bracelet, but with a contrasting rose-gold-colored (PVD-coated) stainless steel crown and bezel, and black ceramic insert. It is followed by the fourth and most expensive model (Ref. R32128202), featuring a highly distinctive plasma ceramic case and bracelet (Zirconium carbide, ZrC), with hardened stainless steel bezel, and blue ceramic insert.
All four models are immediately available and come with a slightly domed, black tinted sapphire crystal and applied indexes.
The new Captain Cook is powered by the R734 caliber from ETA, with 80 hours’ power reserve and a Nivachron hairspring. The case is water-resistant to 300 meters and comes with a titanium caseback with sapphire insert. Prices start at $3,300 (R32127156), the R32127152 retails for $3,600, the R32127162 with PVD is $3,700, and the R32128202 with blue bezel insert is $3,800.

This zirconium-based alloy, two to three times harder than steel, 30% lighter and wonderful to touch, boasts a host of assets. And, given Hublot’s mastery in creating it, this time round the firm invites us to discover three colorful interpretations. As such, the Big Bang Integral Ceramic is proposed in an incredibly-pure white, an intense dark blue and a slate-nuanced gray.
However, these references aren’t really newcomers. Last year, Hublot celebrated its 40th anniversary by unveiling a Big Bang Integral trio. As their name suggests, these chic and sporty pieces stand out with their strap which totally integrates the 42 mm-diameter case refashioned for the occasion. This perfectly-merged couple offers outstanding comfort. One of them also reigns supreme with its elements crafted in satin-brushed black ceramic. And, it’s this monochrome composition which we discover on these hued variations.
Hublot has kept the pared-down presentation of the openworked dial, free from Roman numerals. All time data, the large hour and minute hands and short-cycle time measurements continue to be driven by the HUB1280 caliber. This self-winding movement, equipped with a flyback chronograph, delivers a generous power reserve of 72 hours, i.e. 3 days.
